Giving Back
Over the years I have been involved with a variety of charitable causes, and below are a few examples of my best memories:

SUZHOU EARTHQUAKE, CHINA
After the 2008 devastating earthquake in Suzhou, I joined my father, who represented a charity in Hong Kong called AVS (Agency for Volunteer Services) in 2009 to visit the affected communities in Suzhou. We had raised some funds to build some temporary classrooms and school materials for the children there. We also visited the injured at the rehabilitation centre. Since then, a seed was planted in my heart that I would always devote my time to reach out to those in need.

7TH ANGKOR WAT BIKE RACE & RIDE, CAMBODIA
In December 2012, I flew to Siem Reap from Singapore to participate in a 17km ride around the UNESCO World Heritage site, organized by Terre Des Hommes. Money raised from the race was put towards Village Focus International's human rights programs to support vulnerable children and victims of sex trafficking in Cambodia and Laos.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION, SINGAPORE
Since 2018, we as a family have been participating in a monthly food distribution program to help feed the disadvantaged here in Singapore. Every year we raised money with BikeAid to provide enough food and breakfast rations for over 400 families and 200 school children in rental flats of 4 local estates for the following year. In 2019, we participated as a family in a Malaysia to Singapore bike ride as part of our fund raising initiative.

CYC 300K MASK CHALLENGE, SINGAPORE
In April 2020 at the beginning of Covid-19 pandemic here in Singapore, we were under a full lockdown. A local tailor called CYC started an initiative to make 300,000 fabric masks for the 300,000 migrant workers here. I was tasked to make 300 masks in 10 days. (It took me 15) It was a very humbling & rewarding experience to see the nation come together to give back to our hard working migrant workers.

RIDE FOR RATIONS, SINGAPORE
In August 2020, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were not able to participate in our usual bike ride from Malaysia to Singapore. Instead, my family did a 440km bike ride across Singapore collectively as a family to help raise funds for next year's rations. With my new found skills of sewing fabric masks, I sold over $2000 worth of reusable masks as part of my fund raising initiative.

MOVEMBER
During the month of November 2020, I donated the sale of all my handmade masks to Movember Foundation.
Money raised will be used to help fund programs for education, health treatments and counselling for men regarding their health: physical and mental. We are currently losing 60 men to suicide every hour all over the. world. We can help by supporting all the great work done at Movember Foundation.

PASSING IT ON!
Working with my eldest son in 2022, we came up with some ideas for his school to be of service to others as part of a foundational element of his International Baccalaureate education. He subsequently designed a poster to be circulated throughout the school campus. He also planned and prepared some goodies to share with his school staff as a thank you. I am excited to see my children carry the baton and help make their world a better place.

CASSIA RESETTLEMENT TEAM
In 2022, I joined a local community initiative near where I live, and have been helping some elderly members readjust to their new homes. It involves home visits, helping out with errands and organizing annual social events. It is a humble experience to witness their struggles and how the country's social welfare system is set up to deal with these issues. Being an expat with no family connections here in Singapore, it is both insightful and rewarding to be able to connect with this silver generation.

LET'S TAKE A WALK
In 2023, I participated in a fundraising event and raised money for Ray of Hope charity to help community members who have fallen on hard times. We wore the event t-shirts and walked 20km not only to raise money, but also awareness to the public about the charity. It was such a meaningful activity, not to mention we were exercising as well as enjoying the beautiful sights of Singapore all at the same time!
